Always been fascinated by this song.
Not knowing I was a woman when I was younger I remember this song hitting me like a ton of bricks. This sloppy, sing-along chugging ode to empathy and gender-fuckery. Maybe Ray didn't intend it that way. I'd like to think this was him attempting to see what he could get away with in a radio-friendly single.

I recorded this on the day I came out 100% publicly as a trans woman. It's sloppy, a little out of tune, mixed weird. But it's all done as an intentional tribute to the many, many, many reclamations of this song I've encountered over the years (most importantly The Raincoats').

Thanks, Ray. I hope it's ok that I changed one line at the very end. I think we earned it.

When my CD copy arrived in the mail I was actually already listening to the digital version for maybe the 3rd time. The whole thing is just so beautiful and triumphant sounding the entire way through. It has the exact energy I need right now in my life.
