if you see me in the shower
i'm in a place of honor
the scum and grout, too
i'm dependent on the worldbuilding
learn to trust the echo
scream louder at the tile
be a girl with range
chunks in the seltzer
tell yrself it's the pulp
of the street you kicked up
with your own two boots
learn to trust the caulk
the bones of the earth
be a girl with range
hand me that new fabric
the old skin and the mold
be a girl with range
about
here's a song recorded ten minutes after I wrote it, with drums and production added later on.
I was in New York and staying with incredible people Mya Byrne and Swan Real, and they were in the room when I did it, so they added some improv background vocals.
it was based around a conversation about trans voices and different ways to approach having a deeper voice when you're a woman. Swan said "it's not easy being a girl with range" and the phrase stuck with me all day.
enjoy.

When my CD copy arrived in the mail I was actually already listening to the digital version for maybe the 3rd time. The whole thing is just so beautiful and triumphant sounding the entire way through. It has the exact energy I need right now in my life. I'll have to add a favorite track later, its so hard to choose. Thank you Al for the music. janieryan
